Foto 01 The Art  :  Historic Value

Cidadelhe is located at the North of Pinhel Municipality, in the district of Guarda, in the region of Côa Valley. Located at 500 meters, between the Côa and Massueime rivers.

It's a village with a rich archaeological heritage, which connects us to our collective memories. The granite engraving and figures, gave Cidadelhe the status of rock art, and achieved the classification of World Heritage in 1998 by UNESCO.

The village is distinguished by the Faia engravings and paintings, from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. It is believed that the first Cidadelhe population is located at the top of the hill, where you can find a rock in shape of a head, located in front of Saint Amaro´s Church.

In this village we have some historical and important monuments, characterized by the amazing architecture such as Saint Amaro´s Church, Saint Sebastião and Saint Barbara´s Chapels. We also have the Calvary, the first image that we can find in the village.

The houses are in a homogeneous architecture, predominantly in rock and granite. The population also recognizes the court building! It is assumed that the old inhabitants of the village took justice in to their own hands.

The points of interest that we can refer in the Village are the Mouro´s Castel and the Poio do Gato. You can appreciate historical places but also the amazing and spectacular mountain range landscape.
